SCHOOL
KG 1 & The day is more structured in KG 1 & 2 and children begin to conform to routines and attempt more formal work. We carry on with handwriting exercises and introduce letter formation and initial solutions. There are many opportunities for developing speaking and listening skills during discussion sessions, singing and stories. The children are encouraged to write alone and they do make some excellent attempt by using their words building skills. We introduce reading books when we feel that the children are ready. In mathematics, we develop their mathematical
language introducing maths activities practically. We start number formation
and recognition and work towards addition. We talk about and introduce simple
patterns and encourage the children to use mathematical ideas and methods to
solve practical problems. The children will be growing in their ability to speak clearly and confidently in different contexts, with attention to detail and increasing focus. They will develop their listening skills in one to one and group situations, following instructions and making appropriate responses. We practically work on our speaking and listening skills through stories, songs and sharing times. At this stage in their developments, the children are moving from the concrete stage where they need practical help to solve problems, to the abstract stage where they use mental strategies to solve simple problems using counting, addition, subtraction, doubling, fractions. They begin to explain their methods. We will be working on different aspects of writing, composition, spelling and punctuation, handwriting and presentation.
